Raised to a High Station

Following the description of Idris (AS) as a man of truth and a prophet, the Quran reveals something extraordinary about the honor Allah bestowed upon him.

وَرَفَعْنَٰهُ مَكَانًا عَلِيًّۭا

"And We raised him to a high station."

— Surah Maryam 19:57

Allah Himself elevated Idris (AS) to a makanan aliyya — a high station. Commentators have offered different understandings of this elevation: some describe it as a station of honor and nearness to Allah among the prophets, while others, drawing on certain narrations, describe it as a literal ascent to one of the heavens. What remains certain is that this elevation was a direct honor from Allah, granted in recognition of his truthfulness and devotion.

This pairing of truth and elevation is not incidental. Throughout the Quran, sincerity and steadfastness in following Allah's guidance are tied to honor — both in this world and the next. Idris (AS)'s high station stands as a reminder that nearness to Allah is earned through consistent truthfulness, not through worldly status or recognition.

Idris (AS) is mentioned once more in the Quran, grouped together with other prophets known for their patience.

وَإِسْمَٰعِيلَ وَإِدْرِيسَ وَذَا ٱلْكِفْلِ ۖ كُلٌّۭ مِّنَ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ

"And [mention] Ishmael and Idrees and Dhul-Kifl; all were of the patient."

— Surah Al-Anbiya 21:85

Here, Idris (AS) is named alongside Ismail (AS) and Dhul-Kifl (AS), united by a single defining quality: sabr, or patience. This patience was not passive endurance but active steadfastness — patience in conveying the message of Allah despite resistance, patience in upholding truth despite difficulty, and patience in maintaining sincerity despite the trials of life. The Quran consistently links the righteous prophets to this quality, showing that patience is the thread that connects every prophet's mission, regardless of era or circumstance.

وَأَدْخَلْنَٰهُمْ فِى رَحْمَتِنَآ ۖ إِنَّهُم مِّنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ

"And We admitted them into Our mercy. Indeed, they were of the righteous."

— Surah Al-Anbiya 21:86

The chapter of Idris (AS)'s life closes with this beautiful conclusion: Allah admitted him, along with his companions in patience, into His mercy. He is named among as-saliheen — the righteous. This is the ultimate outcome for every prophet and every believer who upholds truth with patience: entry into the mercy of Allah.
