The Destruction of 'Ad and Hud's Rescue
After years of patient warning, the time for Allah's decree finally arrived for the people of 'Ad.
وَلَمَّا جَآءَ أَمْرُنَا نَجَّيْنَا هُودًۭا وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ بِرَحْمَةٍۢ مِّنَّا وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُم مِّنْ عَذَابٍ غَلِيظٍۢ
"And when Our command came, We saved Hūd and those who believed with him, by mercy from Us; and We saved them from a harsh punishment."

When Allah's command finally arrived, He saved Hud (AS) and the small group of believers who had stood with him. They were spared the harsh punishment that befell the rest of their people — a mercy granted because of their steadfast faith despite being surrounded by rejection and ridicule.
وَتِلْكَ عَادٌۭ ۖ جَحَدُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَعَصَوْا۟ رُسُلَهُۥ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَ كُلِّ جَبَّارٍ عَنِيدٍۢ
"And that was ʿAad, who rejected the signs of their Lord and disobeyed His messengers and followed the order of every obstinate tyrant."

This verse summarizes the core failing of 'Ad: they rejected Allah's signs, disobeyed His messengers, and instead followed the commands of every obstinate tyrant among them. Their downfall was rooted in misplaced loyalty — choosing to follow arrogant leaders rather than the truth presented by their own prophet.
وَأُتْبِعُوا۟ فِى هَٰذِهِ ٱلدُّنْيَا لَعْنَةًۭ وَيَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ ۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ عَادًۭا كَفَرُوا۟ رَبَّهُمْ ۗ أَلَا بُعْدًۭا لِّعَادٍۢ قَوْمِ هُودٍۢ
"And they were [therefore] followed in this world with a curse and [as well] on the Day of Resurrection. Unquestionably, ʿAad denied their Lord; then away with ʿAad, the people of Hūd."

Their punishment was not limited to this world alone — a curse followed them both in this life and into the Day of Resurrection. The verse ends with a powerful, sorrowful declaration: away with 'Ad, the people of Hud. They are remembered in the Quran not by their own name alone, but by their relationship to the prophet they rejected — a permanent reminder that their fate was sealed by their own denial of a sincere and trustworthy messenger.
